This seasoning blend elevates this classic dish with a creamy cheddar cheese taste and a smoky bacon flavor. (Noodles NOT included)
Makes 4 servings
23 g (0.8 oz)
All you need:
- Mac & Cheese seasoning (included)
- 250g (1 cup) macaroni
- 45 ml (3 tbsp) salted butter
- 15 ml (1 tbsp) flour
- 375 ml (1 ½ cup) milk
- 125 g (½ cup/4 oz) cream cheese
- 500 ml (2 cups) aged cheddar cheese, shredded
- 15 ml (1 tbsp) dry breadcrumbs
All you do:
Preheat oven on BROIL. Set aside 2 tbsp. (30ml) cheddar. Cook macaroni in a large pot of boiling salted water and boil for 10 minutes. While the pasta is cooking, melt the butter on medium-low in the skillet, blend in the seasoning mix, then blend in the flour and stir until well combined. Whisk in the milk, raise the heat (careful not to boil over the top) and whisk continuously until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat, add cheeses and stir until melted. Stir in the cooked & drained macaroni. Sprinkle the reserved cheddar & breadcrumbs on top. Broil (watch closely) just to melt the cheese topping and crisp it up.
**add some frozen broccoli flowerets to the boiling pasta for a colorful and vitamin packed addition. Or to add even more smoky flavor, add bacon bits to the cheesy sauce right before broiling.
